From Miami to DC, Marco Rubio doesn’t have time to talk to constituents about jobs

According to Senator Marco Rubio’s website, he is all about “putting Florida first.” Tell that to the Floridians that keep trying to meet with him to talk about unemployment in our state.

For the past few months, residents of Hialeah, Little Havana, Little Haiti and other job-starved Miami neighborhoods have prayed in front of, petitioned and picketed Senator Rubio’s Miami office to talk about the job crisis crippling the neighborhoods he represents.  Senator Rubio has responded the same way he responds to our plunging economy: by doing nothing.  After each one of those actions some blogger, media person or nay-sayer eventually says that they are focusing on the wrong place.  “You need to be in Washington DC” is the common complaint.  This week Miamians listened.

On Monday morning at 4am, while most politicians and lobbyists are sound asleep, 150 members of 1Miami, Occupy Miami and other community organizations boarded buses to Washington DC to “Take Back the Capitol.”  They came to spend a week sleeping on the National Mall in the cold to demand that Sunshine state politicians respond to their calls to create more and better jobs.

On Tuesday afternoon they found themselves in a familiar situation.  Dozens of those same residents that prayed and petitioned in Miami packed into Marco Rubio’s DC office to demand a meeting.  A staffer from the office stated that he was busy.  The residents insist they will wait until he is free.  After all, it is a democracy and Senator Rubio constantly plays up his humble Miami roots.  What better things does he have to do than talk to his constituents that represent the neighborhoods he is paid to fight for?  We will keep you posted.
